5 ways to simplify your life

These days it can be difficult to manage life. With the pressures of jobs, running the perfect household, managing to eat healthily and go to the gym 4 times a week, things can seem impossible. It’s a huge accomplishment these days to emerge from under our mountain of lists and deadlines and find any spare time for other life admin! We always wondered what our parents and grandparents meant by “back in our day, things were simpler”. Now we’re adulting and have about 101 things to tick off our list by midday! So, in light of National Simplicity Day (12th July) we wanted to knuckle down and find THE answer to life, or at least find a few ways to simplify it.

It’s time to de-stress, de-clutter and de-all the things that put us under so much pressure in this modern world.

1. Free yourself from unnecessary stuff

It’s easy to accumulate things over the years, we’re talking mentally as well as physically. It’s important every now and then to revaluate the ‘stuff’ you have in your home and ask yourself if you really need it. It can feel very freeing to let go of unused items and can help clear the mind as well the home. Simplify your home and life by clearing out any items you haven’t used (or worn) in a while. Be ruthless and take a trip to the charity shop! You’ll feel better for it!

2. Show yourself some selflove

It may sound extreme, but we can get extremely bogged down by negativity in our lives and if there are certain people that tend to just bring drama and pessimism it may be time to revaluate your relationship with them. Is it worth your time? Your energy? We’re obviously not suggesting you cut all ties but if you have toxic relationships in your life, it may be time to revaluate where you’re focusing your energy. It’s time to be selfish and practice a bit of selflove!

3. Start a morning routine

If you’re guilty of hitting the snooze button multiple times in the morning (aren’t we all?) then now’s the time to re-look at your morning routine altogether. Getting up late, rushing to get showered, dressed, and looking half-decent, only to forget to pick up your lunch in the mad dash out the door, may sound like a very usual Wednesday to you. However, did you know starting your day off like this can be adding unwanted stress to your day and leave you feeling like you’re catching up for the rest of the day?

By creating, and sticking to, a morning routine you can start your day off in a much more positive way. Being in control of your day from the minute you wake up can lead to a more productive day. It doesn’t have to be a full-on workout or a session at the gym, it could be something simple like allowing yourself 10 minutes for a peaceful cuppa and a moment to think about the day ahead, or a short 15 minute walk around the block to clear your mind and stretch the legs.

4. Adapt your way of life

I know we may sound like a broken record, but it has been proven that being more organised can make you happier, we wrote an entire blogpost on this if this sounds up your street. Being organised can certainly simplify things in your life, and also simplify how you see things. Things such as planning meals, organising your money and planning your weekly diary can ease your everyday life massively.

5. Digital detox

Give yourself some time off from your devices! The threaten of a device ban may fill your kids with horror, but this is something you should be putting yourself on too. In this digital age we are fixated on our devices quite literally from the moment we wake up to the second our head hits the pillow at night. As much as technology has helped many of us, it’s also hindered us greatly. How many of you find yourselves aimlessly scrolling through endless feeds without really paying attention? We used to be able to hold lengthy conversations or get through an entire film without checking our phones. By constantly being ‘available’, whether it’s to your work, or your online world, we’re not giving ourselves any time off. It’s so important for our state of minds to switch off every now and then and be present and in the moment with our loved ones.

These are just a few of our tips that we’ve gathered from a discussion in the Stackers office. We’d love to hear your ideas on how to simplify your lives. Send us a message on Instagram if you have any great tips to share and we’ll be sharing our favourites on National Simplicity Day!
